Below is an interesting link to a website discussing how Marco Polo seemed to refer to seeing a Dragon on his journey through Asia:

This thread is for the discussion of all other supposed legends, that may actually exist or have existed in the past.

It is typical how the editor tries to undermine Marco Polo in this instance. The Dinosaur Hoax was probably at least partly inspired by Dragons.

Exactly. Marco Polo knew what he saw, and knew full well what a Crocodile/Alligator was. What he saw was obviously not an Alligator, and what he describes is definitely what we would call a 'Dragon'.

The fascinating thing about dragons is that they are ubiquitous to nearly every culture and civilization. Dinosaurs on the other hand aren't.
Another thing we can extrapolate from the various "myths" and "legends" is that their population was never that great; or perhaps they had a cyclical population growth and reduction.
Either way, where could they possibly be? I doubt they are all extinct.

Dragons And Other Legends Not Myths? Empty Re: Dragons And Other Legends Not Myths?

What I believe is that the hoax of dinosaurs was in fact created to nullify the dragon myths and beliefs. If you ever look carefully at the descriptions of the European and Chinese dragons you find that they are just two branches of classification. To understand what I mean to say, consider the classification of dinosaurs-saurischian and ornithischian, i.e. lizard and bird hipped or more like having reptilian and avian characteristics.
The Chinese dragon can be easily interpreted as a giant snake, but the European dragon doesn't seem too avian or does it?
Observe the European dragon first. Throughout Europe we see the description as being having an elongated mouth, a beak like mouth, or an equine(donkey like or horse like) mouth, it has wings very massive like an eagle, the talons of a lion or an eagle, a very long tail, the Slavic dragon has a face resembling a donkey. All these traits are also seen within the griffin and cockatrice too. At first, comparing a dragon with birds(how can a majestic dragon and a rooster be related?) seems wrong but the if you look at it as comparison between mythological creatures of similar descriptions we see that the four legged winged dragon, the griffin, the Phoenix and the cockatrice are the same.
Again apply the dinosaur classification to the European and Chinese dragons.(we are applying this since I suspect this classification itself is of dragons and later adopted onto dinosaurs, after all they made every theory with the base as dragons.). We observe that the European dragon is an avian dragon and the Chinese is a reptilian one. We can also imagine a dragon and a wyrm for this instead. To support this classification of avian and reptilian dragons, we look at a symbol of alchemy.

Search on Google(I can't post links yet, sorry), two dragons ouroboros. You'll find in the images of two dragons eating each other's tails.

The symbol depicts a double ouroboros, two dragons pursuing each other's tails. One is bird like or the common dragon and the other is the wyrm, Chinese rong dragon snake like. In the center of the symbol is the star of David with the alchemical symbols for planets flanking it. We also learn that these types are opposites of each other just like the sun and moon, sun -> avian and moon -> snake like. A symbol on similar grounds is the ancient Indian symbol of a mayura killing a snake which represents the cycle of time. It looks like the symbol in the link above with the exception that the avian dragon is replaced by a peacock and the rong dragon with a serpent.

The symbol of twin ouroboros (to me), also depicts the cycle of time.
The Age of the avian dragon is the one which begins with good and ends in evil; whereas as the Age of the rong dragon is the one which begins with evil and ends in good.
Don't mistake these lines as rubbish "good and evil" mystic talks, but what these lines mean is that good and evil are just the quantities of entropy of the universe.
In the avian half the entropy of the universe begins high and ends low, whereas in the serpent half the entropy of the universe begins low and ends high. Entropy defines order and chaos, and indirectly influences good and evil. Now again, we found that these types of dragons are opposites like sun and moon, and with the above depiction the bringer of the avian age is the sun and the bringer of serpent age is the moon. And the twin ouroboros symbol resembles the yin and yang symbol as well.

Dragons And Other Legends Not Myths? Empty Re: Dragons And Other Legends Not Myths?

The depiction of a dragon(avian dragon) hoarding gold, living on mountains, being very malevolent or being very helpful, breathing fire, etc has become a stereotype for the common people.
As I learn more about the Griffin and dragons being same I come to believe that such a dragon is a bird and it should nest on a tree. But there's no tree for its size.
A griffin used to guard treasure not hoard it and same did the dragons did. A bird actually loves shiny objects from its birth, even it is a little chicken. That could explain it having or keeping jewels and gold in what we call its nest! (another parallel between the dragon and birds). When an unfit king ran out of the state treasure he would order for killing this innocent bird and loot those jewels.
If you have seen the documentary, " There are no forests on the Flat Earth, Wake Up" you might relate to this far easier.
The mountains are the remains of giant trees and the dragon is a bird which used to live on these trees, made nests there before they were cut. All animals share compassion for same species as well as other similar creatures, for example the elephants, monkeys, etc. When in a jungle ecosystem, where squirrels, monkeys, deer's, etc graze, play around and socialize, a few of them remain on guard so as to remain prepared of predators and warn the others.
All animals show compassion to other organisms, especially when one dies. Hence the dragon/ bird actually rested on the dead corpse of the giant trees showing the same compassion by not leaving it's body even if it died. Or it could be seen that the dragon/ bird didn't want to leave its home even after it was destroyed. In both cases the reason is much more of sorrow than of any other feeling.
These birds/ dragons were mercilessly hunted down to the point that today, they are most probably extinct.
